HISTOCHEMICAL STUDIES OF THE OLFACTORY MUCOSA OF THE RABBIT

1. Tests of the olfactory mucosa of rabbits by five different methods indicate that cholinesterase is probably not present in any of the cells of this tissue.

2. Alkaline phosphatase and phosphamidase were not found in the olfactory receptors.

3. Acid phosphatase and sulfhydryl groups were found to be present in the receptors, and the presence of cytochrome oxidase was demonstrated in gross sections of turbinate tissue.
