A NOTE ON CHOLINESTERASE ACTIVITY IN POST-MORTEM TISSUES

ELIZABETH J. MOORE 1 and CHARLES S. PETTY 1

1 Department of Pathology, Louisiana State University School of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana

Cholinesterase activity at the myoneural junction in human intercostal muscle was demonstrated histochemically. Activity was present in refrigerated muscle up to 157 days and for a similar time in tissues removed from bodies within 24 hours after embalming. The duration of cholinesterase activity in muscle treated with various fixatives was also investigated.
