HISTOCHEMICAL DEMONSTRATION OF UNSATURATED LIPIDS BY BROMINE SILVER METHOD

A method of demonstration of unsaturated lipids in tissue sections has been described.

Formol fixed frozen sections are exposed to bromine vapour. It is then allowed to react with an alcoholic or ammoniacal solution of silver nitrate, the silver salt being finally reduced to metallic state by reducing agent.

Evidences have been put forward to prove the superiority of bromine over iodine treatment.

If properly controlled, the method appears to be quite specific.
